How Don Soriano's Book Break Free Can Change Your Life
I am a self-confessed bookworm. Before I got into blogging, I spend my free time reading books. Growing up from a dysfunctional family has been difficult. At an early age, I learned to be independent, trying to discover the path of life on my own. This is the reason why I love self-help books. It gives me so many lessons that I can apply in real life.
At 35, I can say that I have been through a lot and I am thankful that I was able to make it despite all the hardships. But trials and difficulties would still knock at my doorsteps every so often. 2016 has been a very challenging year for me. I got retrenched from the company I was working with for the past 3 years where I was getting a really good pay. After I lost my job, I have seen tremendous changes when it comes to my finances. Since May of last year, I have been to 5 different companies in a span of 5 months, 2 of which I was terminated due to poor performance. It was one of the lowest times in my life considering that I have two boys that I need to support.
I am a registered nurse and has a short stint as a nurse here and in Dubai. I find solace in the BPO industry where I worked for 7 years. It was not the job that I wanted but I was earning good. What I really love to do is to write. I started blogging in 2007 and had many free gigs before finally having paid writing jobs. I am getting a small amount of money through writing and I just do it on the side since I enjoyed doing it. After I was terminated in 2016, I decided to do home based jobs and concentrate in writing.
I was able to bounce back in 2017 and is now doing good as a freelance writer and lifestyle blogger. The pay is good plus I get the chance to spend time with my kids. It is also a dream come true for me to be an online influencer and hopefully be able to help more people in the near future. It took me a while to redeem myself mainly because I lack the support system that I needed.
So how can an 81-page book change your life? Here are some of the points that I have taken down as to why this book can help change your life.
Realistic Advice
One thing I really liked about this book is that Don Soriano gave realistic advice. I have read many books promising financial freedom by venturing into business. That can be true to those who already have the resources. For those who are just regular employees and striving so hard just to have food on the table, this will be quite hard. The author made a good advice by emphasizing that one must not quit his job right away. Imagine if you are planning to open your business but you do not have the means to execute your plan and you decide to leave your job, where will you get the money to pay for your bills and everyday expenses?
True Happiness
Just like most of us, the author also shared his love for material possessions. We all wanted to live an extravagant life to the extent that we spend more than the money that we have. This is one of the main reasons why we miss-managed our money. But is it just the material things that will make us really happy? In reality, true happiness is a choice. And the best part is that we can all be happy whether we have the money or not.
Investing In Yourself
While we all wanted to be successful in life, only very few are willing to invest in their own self. To achieve the success that we want, we all have to allow the person within us to grow to its full potential. There are many ways to better ourselves. You can read articles online or self-help books that can be found in most bookstores. If you are the type who does not enjoy reading, you can try audio books. There are also seminars being conducted by life coaches who can make a big impact in your life. Do whatever works for you.
Managing Your Finances
I'm sure all of us experience being broke at least once in our life. That feeling of not being able to buy what we wanted sucks! But we never learned. Come pay day, we are in a hurry to spend our hard earned money. We have to sacrifice a little so that we can save up something for our future. As early as now, learn to manage your money, no matter how big or how small you are earning.
Choosing Our Friends Wisely
We all have our circle of friends. And let's face it, the crazier they are, the more likely you will enjoy their company. Sure, it's fun to stay all night long drinking alcohol. This is the scenario back in your college days. If this is still your scenario 5 or 10 years after you graduated, then maybe it's time to reflect on what you wanted to happen in your life. The top 5 people we spend our time affects our personality and views in life. If you spend more time with successful people, then there is a higher chance that you will adopt that mindset. Choose your friends wisely. Never settle for those who are negative thinkers unless you do not want to challenge yourself to do better.
Real Life Experience
Don Soriano's Break Free is something I can really relate to. I think the fact that what he has written is real life experience made the difference. These are true stories without any script, and just lessons learned the hard way. This is the same problems that we faced daily. Imagine how he was able to pay off all his debt and became the owner of multi-million businesses. This is because he learned from all the tests in his life and while trying to figure out how to emerged victorious in his battles, he never stopped to enhance his skills and grow himself to be the best person he can be.
This little book has big life-lessons to offer. It is not yet available in bookstores but you can get your copy from Don Soriano's FB Page for only PHP300. If you have read the book, please also share what you have learned. Let's help spread the news so we can all Break Free from our situation and achieve success really soon!
