Ilocos region represents the northwestern part of the Philippines. It is known for its historic places that will take you down the memory lane. It is also abundant in beaches with fine white sand. For nature lovers, your heart will be filled with joy as you capture your Instagram-worthy selfie either in mountains or waterfalls! Ilocos, aside from the flavorful foods that it offers, has so many picturesque places that need to be discovered. Below are some of the must-see destinations in Ilocos.
Paoay Church
There is a saying that "old places have a soul". Saint Augustine Church, popularly known as Paoay Church would prove that the saying is indeed true. It is one of the oldest churches in the Philippines but its beauty is evergreen.
Also located in Paoay, the Malacañang of the North is very much similar to the Malacañang Palace in Manila. It is surrounded by the Paoay lake which gives a breathtaking view, especially during sunset. The official residence of the Marcoses turned to a museum showcased the lifestyle of one of the most influential families in the country. It is open to the public from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Tuesdays to Sundays with an entrance fee of PHP20.
If trekking and adventure are something that you enjoy, then a visit to Kaibigan Falls is something you don't want to miss. Located in Barangay Balaoi, Kabigan Falls is just a 10-minute drive from Pagudpud proper. After 20-30 minutes of hiking, you will see the magnificent waterfalls where you can dip into the cold water for a refreshing treat. There is a small store so if you get hungry or thirsty along the way, you can grab some fresh buko juice and some Pinoy delicacies like banana que, turon and lumpiang gulay.
Yes, yes! There is a mini-Batanes in Ilocos. Not many tourists know this secret green hills which are very similar to the Batanes that we know. It was my first climb and I did not have a hard time reaching the top. And when you finally get there you will see the amazing coastline of Pagudpud, where the scenery is a mixture of the green grass and blue water. Truly a breathtaking view!
