Beauty For A Better Life: Empowering Women
We all wanted to look our best all the time. For most people, beauty has an impact on one’s personality. Most women that I know equate beauty with confidence, hence these women try their best to look presentable at all times. When it comes to the beauty industry, L’Oreal is one of the trusted names all over the globe. It has been a key player in the beauty sector for over 100 years.
While L’Oreal is known to manage the portfolio of various beauty brands like Maybelline New York, Nya Professional Make Up, Giorgio Armani and Guy Laroche just to name a few, it’s good to know that L’Oreal Philippines is one in empowering women though a foundation.
L’Oreal’s Beauty For A Better Life was launched in April 2017. After a year, three batches were produced and have changed 62 lives to date. Led by L’Oreal Foundation, Beauty For A Better Life is deployed in 27 countries across the globe and one of its key programs is to empower women in situations of social and economic instability by providing them proper training where they can start a career in the beauty industry. For its first run, L’Oreal Philippines together with Philippine Business For Social Progress (PBSP) decided to focus on training women within one barangay to allow for growth within the community and co-empowerment among themselves. This program was first brought to Brgy. Sto. Nino as this is one of the priority areas for unemployment.
"We believe in the power of beauty to change lives, and Beauty For a Better Life expands the definition of beauty by using it as a way to provide skills and livelihood opportunities to those most in need. A renewed sense of self-confidence, dignity, and motivation are fundamental changes that we see in our graduates and it is our hope and vision that Beauty For a Better Life empowers these women to gain a better quality of life through increased access to livelihood opportunities, and thereby becoming socially and economically empowered to also serve as beacons of hope for their own families and communities”, shares Carmel Valencia, L’Oréal Philippines Corporate Communication Manager.
April 3 unfolds another milestone as it celebrates all the beneficiaries from Brgy. Sto. Nino and also gives way for the turning over of the program to a new barangay in Marikina.
“It is truly heartwarming to see the hope that the program has brought about to the lives of the women (and men) of Brgy. Sto. Niño. For the next cycle of Beauty For a Better Life, we are hoping that we will also open opportunities to individuals from Brgy. Dela Peña and continue our advocacy of changing lives through beauty,” concludes Ms. Valencia.
This important chapter in L’Oreal Philippines Beauty For A Better Life was celebrated on April 3 at the Renaissance Hotel in Marikina. A fashion show was held to showcase the works from the 3 batches of the said foundation. This also marks the graduation of Batch 3 who underwent daily classroom sessions in the Barangay Hall for the past three months where they were taught hairdressing skills like blow drying, hair coloring, hair cutting and various hair treatments. All these graduates were also exposed for a week of internship in L’Oreal’s partner salons in Metro Manila so they get to experience the actual work.
