5 Must-Visit Places In Bali

by - March 01, 2020

Bali, the famed island of the gods, is a favorite destination of many. In fact, most people have it in their bucket list and want to visit it at least once in their lifetime. When we think of Bali, pristine beaches, white sand, clear waters, and a beautiful sunset would be the things that we can imagine. But Bali is more than just a breathtaking body of water.
Bali is an island of Indonesia where pretty much everything can be found—forested volcanic mountains, picturesque rice terraces, beaches with rich marine life, and religious monuments and temples. It’s also home to huge swings and gigantic nests that are all over social media.

I am a fan of DIY travel but since there is no public transportation in Bali, booking a tour is a must. It’s a lot easier and you can save money too if you go by groups. You can ask the hotel you are in about tours and packages range between 550-700 Indonesia Rupiah (IDR).

Here are some of the famous landmarks in Bali that are worth visiting.

Handara Gate
The iconic Handara Gate is a traditional Hindu gate that symbolizes the entrance from the outer world to the temple. Handara Gate is an entrance to a golf course. The gate is surrounded by greens which gives off a relaxing vibe. Many tourists are lining up to take their selfies with the famous gate so everyone is in a hurry to finish their photo session to give way to others. It is located in Bedugul and near other scenic spots like the Wanagiri a hidden Hill and Ulan Danu Temple.
Wanagiri Hidden Hill
After almost 2.5 hours from my hotel in Kuta, we arrived at an Instagram worthy place. Situated in the northern part of Bali, Wanagiri Hidden Hill is probably the most popular selfie spot on the island. If you want to level up your Instagram feed, then this is the best place to visit. They have huge swings and ahuman-sized bird’s nests with panoramic mountain and lake views. Traveling solo? Fret not because the friendly and trained photographers will take care of your photos. They surely know their craft and would even suggest pose so your photos look great! The Wanagiri Hidden Hill is open from 8 AM to 6 PM.

Tirta Empul Temple
Also known as the Holy Water Temple, Tirta Empul is a Hindu Balinese temple situated near the town of Tampaksiring. It has a bathing structure and is famous for its holy spring water. Tirta Empul means Holy Spring in Balinese. It is where ritual purification happens and even tourists get the chance to bath in this holy place.

Ulan Danu Beratan Temple
Ulan Danu is a temple located about 1200 meters above sea level on the shores of Lake Bratan in the mountains near Bedugul. It was built in 1633 and used for offering ceremonies for Dewi Danu, the Balinese water, lake, and river goddess.
Tegalalang Rice terraces
The famous agricultural icon is located in Tegalalang Village, north of Ubud. It's a breathtaking view where everything is surrounded by the greens. Tegalalang Rice terraces reconnect you to nature and make you appreciate the fresh air and calm environment that we don’t usually experience from our busy and stressful routine. Every spot is Instagrammable and every corner is worth enjoying too!
