Antipolo Hits: A Relaxing Massage At Callospa Plus A Side Trip To Tahanan Bistro

by - October 03, 2020

I celebrated my 38th birthday by getting the best massage and having a sumptuous lunch with a panoramic view of laguna the bay. Before the lockdown in March, I had a massage at least once a week. This is my way of distressing after a busy work week. And ever since the pandemic started, I did not have the chance to visit the spa as it was not allowed to operate yet.
Luckily, spa and massage centers are now open! But instead of going to the usual spa, I opted for something new. I have always wanted to visit Callospa Resort in Antipolo ever since I saw the amazing photos online. And finally, I had my trip to work the coolest spa destination in Antipolo on 19th September.
Callospa and Resort is a private garden resort situated in the hills of Antipolo. It’s approximately 45 minutes travel from Cubao. Callospa started as a farm with horses, cows and other farm animals and is now a private garden resort. I made the appointment on their official Facebook page.
As soon as you enter the place, you will be greeted by the green surroundings with lots of trees and flowers all over the place, a pond near the reception, and an inviting view of the swimming pool.
Callospa offers massage packages that is perfect to soothe tired muscles. I availed their Affordable Escape Package which includes 15 minute sauna, followed by another 15 minutes of jacuzzi and 1 hour signature massage for only PHP800.
The treatment will start with sauna which increase blood circulation, anti aging, skin rejuvenation, detoxification and also improves sleep and relation. Next is jacuzzi which helps reduced muscle and joint pains and promotes sleep and relaxation. And finally, a one hour signature massage to complete the treatment.
It was a relaxing two hour treatment. Aside from massage packages, Callospa Resort also offers room accommodation and they also have a huge event place for special occasions like wedding, birthdays, and other gatherings. If you are looking for a romantic place for your special someone, they have a setup in the midles of the pond surrounded by coy fishes where you can enjoy lunch or dinner.

How to go to Callospa:
From Cubao, you can ride a bus (PHP35) and get off at Robinson's Antipolo. Ride a tricycle to take you to Callospa (PHP60).

After the treatment, I went directly to Tahanan Bistro for my lunch reservation. Tahanan was built by designer and woodworker Beni Reyes and his wife Carina. It was built from 100 reclaimed wood from old houses and bridges around the Philippines. It has always been their dream to have a bistro as part of their home. In 2006, one of their daughters, Keesha and her husband Kevin opened the bistro. They were partners in maintaining the bistro, Keesha doing management of the place while Kevin who finish his culinary studies in Australia is the executive chef. Tahanan Bistro is a Casula fine dining restaurant that serves traditional Filipino dishes with a twist. It is located inside a subdivision and away from the busy and crowded restaurants and Antipolo.
Be sure to make a reservation to make sure you can be accomodate esxpailly with the situaion now that limted seating capacity is allowed. Also, be sure to bring socks as footwear are not allowed in the dining area. My schedule is from 1-3PM but was allowed to enter 30 minutes ahead of my schedule. They have a huge garden with different trees, plants, and succulents that you can tour while waiting to be seated.

Tahanan Bistro offers a 5 course set meal for PHP1350 plus service charge. There are 3 set meals to choose from and I tried Mayon set meal.

Rellenong Pusit: aligue-battered calamari with moringa aioli, pesto, arugula and white wine vinaigrette.
Danggit Salad quinoa, cherry tomatoes, mixed greens, roasted zucchini, lime vinaigrette
Binagoongan: crispy pork belly in tomato & shrimp paste puree with greek yogurt, baba ghanoush, house-made crispy flat bread
Seasonal fresh popsicle
Bibingka: french toast corn bread  with muscovado & fish sauce caramel, carabao's milk vanilla ice cream

The Verdict:
I liked the appetizer the most! The battered calamari tastes good and was cooked right and does not have the rubbery texture. The Danggit did not appeal good to my tastebuds. I was expecting a bigger Danggit strips but it was too small to even notice or taste it. The binagoongan had an added flavor because of the greek yogurt and have big slices of pork. However, the meat is not tender and not too crsipy either. Plus, I think it would be better to pair it with rice. The fresh popsicle is refreshing and the bibingka is good espcially the ice cream. Overall, it was a good experience. Spectaular view while enjoying my lunch.
