5 Things To Do In Boracay

by - April 07, 2022

I find it weird and funny when my friends abroad would ask me where the Philippines is, saying that they don’t know much about my country. And the moment I started talking about Boracay, they would all nod in unison and say in chorus “oh the famous Boracay island!” It’s good to know that foreigners have envisioned the Philippines (or at least Boracay) as a paradise. Aside from attracting tourists across the globe, Boracay has given the Philippines numerous awards and recognitions including the Best Island in the World in  2016 by International Travel Magazine and placed 2nd in Condé Nast Traveler's 25 Best Island Beaches in the World in 2020.

Now that it’s the summer season, people will surely look for a beach to visit and Boracay will always be a top choice for the majority. Boracay is a small island situated in the central Philippines. Among the 7,107 islands of the Philippines, Boracay emerged as the most famous and most frequented by tourists. It’s well-known for its white sand beach with an energetic vibe surrounded by coconut trees. Whether you want to enjoy the calm waters or thrilling water activities, have a relaxing time alone, or enjoy the nightlife, Boracay has something to offer to you.

Recquirements to travel in Boracay
As of writing, no RT-PCR test is needed (but this may change depending on the current alert level) to travel to Boracay. Just make sure to get your code at https://touristboracay.com which you can generate at least 3 days before your arrival date in Boracay.

After having a rest at your hotel, it’s time to do exciting activities in Boracay. Here are 5 things you can do in Boracay.

1 ) Engage in water activities

  • Helmet Diving - PHP900/person
What better way of getting to know marine life than by joining the sea creatures underwater? Helmet diving is a must-try water activity in Boracay. It lets tourists go down deep into the ocean for at least 15 minutes, enough to meet Nemo and other sea creatures. It’s a safe water activity so long as you follow all the instructions. The briefing will be provided before the activity. And the best part is that there is no need to be an expert swimmer or an experienced diver. Certified dive instructors will be assisting you underwater and will be taking photos and videos too. Just put the pressurised helmet on and you are on your way to a beautiful marine world.

  • Try the UFO ride - PHP600/person
You and your friends should also try the exhilarating UFO ride where an inflated spaceship is being pulled by a speedboat. This heart-pumping activity can be fun but be warned that it can literally drain all your energy.  Life vests are provided but there are no seat belts or straps so you have to hold tight to the straps of the inflatable UFO to prevent yourself from being thrown into the ocean.

2 ) Experience the vibrant nightlife
Aside from the long stretch of white sand beach, Boracay is well known for its colourful nightlife. Boracay after dark is so lively that you will be lost in time. Restaurants and bars are scattered all over the beach and you can choose between wild parties, bars, or live music. There is a famous saying that “what happens in Boracay stays in Boracay” so enjoy the night as if no one is watching.

3 ) Enjoy the pristine island
The sight of clear waters and the feel of fine, powdery white sand is an experience in itself. If you are feeling lazy to do anything, you can enjoy walking on the white sand or just simply look for a spot where you can have a view of the beach, have a refreshing drink, and just enjoy the magnificent view.
You can also do island hopping and visit the nearby island.

Some islands to visit include Puka beach where the Instagrammable crystal kayak can be found. During our tour, the waves were too big and it was not possible to visit Puka island. Good thing that I was able to have my crystal kayak photos (PHP250) at Balinghai beach resort. Balinghai beach is a tropical resort with its coastline hidden beneath a cliff.

Another island to visit is the Crystal Cove Resort. It's a private island located near the southeast of Boracay. It is situated in the municipality of Malay in Aklan. It’s a 20-minute boat ride from the mainland. Inside the resort, there are picnic spots and this is where we had our scrumptious lunch.

There are two caves in the resort, one of which can be accessed through a small hole that leads to stairs going down the cave. There is also a viewing deck where you can enjoy the sound of crashing waves or have your photo taken with the beautiful scenery in the background.

3 ) Watch the romantic sunset
Before the dark sets in, make sure you have the best spot where you can capture the beauty of the sunset. Sunsets are always romantic but Boracay sunset is like no other! When the sun sets and the skies are either orange or pink, Boracay suddenly turns into a canvas. And you don’t want to miss this perfect piece of art and the only way to bring it home is to take snaps of it so be ready with your camera!

5 ) Have a body massage
After a day of strolling along the beach, island hopping, and doing water activities, your body needs a little pampering.  A relaxing body massage can help soothe tired and sore muscles. Room service massages are offered almost everywhere and this is the perfect activity to end the day and recharge your energy.
